UADI (Argentine Union of Associations of Engineers) and CAI (Argentine Center of Engineers) together with centres, colleges and institutions of engineering all over the country are organizing the World Engineering Congress and Exhibition: ENGINEERING 2010 – ARGENTINA: “Technology, Innovation and Production for the Sustainable Development”, to be held in Buenos Aires in October 2010, with the purpose of incorporating a special event of national and international engineering (“World Engineers Week”) during the celebration of the bicentennial of the Revolution of May 25th 1810 which was the beginning of the process o independence in our country.

Confirmed keynote speakers

Dr. Tim Fox

Dr. Tim Fox is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  He has a BSc in Civil Engineering and a PhD for research in fluid mechanics, an area in which he has published extensively. His wide range of engineering experience has been gained across many industrial sectors including the built environment, energy, chemical processing, aerospace, defence and transport and he has worked in commercial enterprises, government agencies and educational institutions in the UK, Australia, Canada and The Netherlands.  As Head of Energy and Environment at the IMechE, Dr. Fox’s role involves developing and communicating the Institution’s policies on energy, environment and sustainability issues, authoring thought-leadership reports and providing input to government policy making.  He regularly contributes as an expert to government and frequently appears in the national and international press and broadcast media. He is one of the keynote speakers who has already confirmed his participation in the Chapter “Energy and Climate Change”, with his address based on the latest IMechE report "Climate Change – Have We Lost The Battle?”.

Eng. Deepak Bhasin

Deepak Bhasin has more than 30 years of experience in the engineering-procurement-construction industry. Before joining the Center for Project Excellence, Mr. Bhasin was the managing director for the start-up and operations of CH2M HILL’s Global Engineering and Design Center in India. Before setting up India, Mr. Bhasin oversaw North and South American operations for the Energy & Chemicals business group, including the acquisition and integration of VECO into CH2M HILL. In his current position as Director of CH2M HILL’s Center for Project Excellence, Mr. Bhasin is responsible for developing and delivering the processes, tools, and systems across the firm to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and consistency in all the services provided by the firm. He is one of the keynote speakers who has already confirmed his participation in the Chapter “Engineering Professional Practice”.

Eng. Pradeep Chaturvedi

Pradeep Chaturvedi is Chairman of the Indian Association for the Advancement of Science; he is a Mechanical Engineer and an internationally-known Energy and Development Expert, who has been engaged in action oriented projects on sustainable development strategies, energy and environment policy and planning (particularly, climate change) for over three decades in India and other Asian and Pacific countries, all under the United Nations Programme. Mr. Chaturvedi has authored eight and edited thirty books on Energy and Environment Management. Mr. Chaturvedi received the World Food Day Award of UNFAO in 1992; Energy Pioneer Award of the World Renewable Energy Council in 2000; Commendation of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations in 2007; Eminent Engineer Award of the Institution of Engineers (India-DSC) in 2007; and the Rajiv Gandhi Shiromani Award of India International Friendship Society in 2007. He participated in the preparatory process of Major UN Environment and Development Conferences, such as Rio Conference 1992, Johannesburg Conference 2002, Bali Conference 2007 and Copenhagen Conference 2009. He is one of the keynote speakers who has already confirmed his participation in the Chapter “Megacities and their infrastructure”.

INTERVIEW TO ENGINEER ANTONIO FEDERICO

Engineer Antonio Federico, Chairman of the Chapter: “Megacities and their Infrastructure (MI)” of the World Congress and Exhibition: ENGINEERING 2010 – ARGENTINA: Technology, Innovation and Production for Sustainable Development”, is a Civil and Hydraulic Engineer, graduated from the National University of Cordoba (Argentina). He was General Director of Hydraulics of the Province of Santa Fe and President of the Provincial Water Services and founder of the College of Water Sciences, of the National University of the Litoral in Santa Fe. In the private sector, he has worked as executive manager of the boards of oil corporations, industrial and civil facilities, most of which working in temporary consortiums of national and international leading corporations. He was the General Administrator of Water and Sewage Services in Argentina, with jurisdiction all over the country. He was also founder and President of the National Institute of Water Science and Techniques, at present called “National Water Institute (in Spanish, INA). He co-ordinates the project “Freplata”, with the participation of the Global Environment Fund (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He is a member of the Advisory Council of AIDIS: Inter-American Sanitary and Environmental Engineering Association. He is the President of the Technical Committee on Water Resources of the Argentine Center of Engineers (CAI).
